Please help with these questions about the novel "The Dark is Rising"?

  • Posted on May 10, 2011 at 8:57 pm

1. Four times in the first two chapters, Will notices the temperature of the iron ornament. What do you think the changes in temperature symbolize? Provide information from the text to support your idea.

2. Merriman tells Will that “Any great gift or power or talent is a burden.” Why does he believe this? Do you feel that this is true? Why or why not?

3. American poet Robert Frost wrote a poem entitled “The Road Not Taken.” Read this excerpt from that poem:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
How is Will’s decision to take the Old Way (Tramp’s Alley) home both a literal and figurative example of following “The Road Not Taken”? (Hint: Does Will follow the easy path, or is he willing to undertake new challenges?)

I’ve seen before a few years back that I could by some type of ledge or shelves for my fish tank. they would stick to the glass with suction cups. I need to find this or something i could get that serves the same purpose.
I have a 55 gal long tank with a 3" sand bottom I have a 3yr old pleco and 1 cichlid. I just bought two fiddler crabs asked all my questions to the pet shop person (a well known and great rep store) and when I got home I found out I had smoke blown in my face. I have to change my set up for the crabs and I want to give them access to the top of the tank but by using shelves or ledges…. not really wanting to buy a bunch of rock ornaments or drift wood to do so but would…. I’d like to keep everything in one tank… not sure though… any ideas on a set up and any ideas where I can find ledges or stick on shelves to give access to the top of the tank so the crabs can walk on up?

I have atheist neighbors and they invited hubby and me round for a meal at the weekend. I swear that place was a mess. The whole house was filled with toys all ove the floor, and so much stuff, like paintings and lamps and ornaments.
I know they dont have much money, as hubby used to work with Bill before he was fired and the ‘wife’ is a cleaner in our church. they spend their mony on material things for their children, DVD’s and decadent things that they should be giving to charity. Their children are spoiled and FAT. the gov gives them free things and all they do is sit there smiling on their fat filthy atheist faces. eating their posh food and wine. hubby and I are simple folks and dont but kids toys, hubby makes them with love from wood he finds. that is how a proper family dhould be.

ok i posted something earlier "can i add any type of stones or wood to my aquarium" im sorry i didnt give enough information so heres the repost

i have 5 small goldfish (the types that dont grow big) and 3 japanese koi fish, 3 live beares (one has disappeared), 1 janitor fish and 1 angelfish (i had 3 but two died unexpectedly) , i jsut recently upgraded my tank to a bigger one (not sure how many gallons it is) so there is room for all the fish. each of the fish have their own territory, the 3 koi fish always hide in teh corner of the tank under an ornament bridge.

i wanted advice on how to raise my fish properly and is it ok to have them in the same tank, they been in the same tank for 1 week now and seem to be doing ok hanging around their own kind (except that 1 livebearer disappeared) i dont have a heater in my tank but is that a necessity? can the angelfish survive in normal temperature water? also i wanted to know if i can wash off some rocks and things i find around teh house or boil them for hours and introduce them into the tank ?

some advice guys thanks!

I need help with painting stuff?

I have a wooden spinner, kind of like this:

http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://sunrise-arts.com/Files_Wind_Spinner_Ornaments/fronthelix.gif&imgrefurl=http://sunrise-arts.com/&usg=__QtymDevYHG6kxMKTll-ULaZEoVQ=&h=353&w=188&sz=19&hl=en&start=5&zoom=1&tbnid=A_jlQ1cOv5QPIM:&tbnh=121&tbnw=64&ei=k6aLTdb8KsHl0gGa9LiYCA&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dwind%2Btwisters%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26biw%3D1024%26bih%3D638%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1

It’s just raw wood, with no stain or paint on it. I want to paint it so I figure it’ll need primer first. So I was wondering if they sell primer in spray paint cans? And if they do would you be able to get them at WalMart? Or would I have to go to a place like Lowe’s? I’m also wondering what is the best kind of paint to use. I want to put it out on the porch, so it will be out in the sun and it will also probably get damp from time to time, so would I have to use a special paint? Any suggestion for brands or primers and paints that aren’t too expensive?

Any help will be appreciated :) thanks!

Ich treatment alternatives, quick please!?

  • Posted on February 20, 2011 at 11:24 am

I have a 46 gallon tank with no gravel. In it I have 5 platies and 6 guppies and 2 corries. Water parameteters good ammonia 0.5 at this point. Tank began to cycle 1/23/2011. I add 1/2 tablespoon salt/gallon, water is treated for Cl and cloramines. One of the platies popped 6 babies and they are in a breathing net in the tank as well. I noted 2-3 dew drops on the 2 of the platies and guppies seems to be Ok but one do rub on resin drift wood ornament occasionally. I raised the temp to 84 today and removed the 2 fish with ich spots and treated them with quick cure in another tank, I also removed all the plastic plants and drift wood ran under hot water and left them out. DO I really have to treat the whole tank with Quick Cure ( Formalyn and Malachite green) ? Is there anything else I can do to rid of ich without using meds which do kill fishand stress them as well. They are active and feeding at this point.
Another question: If I use medications would that kill the beneficial bacteria? If I don’t treat the tank and stay with water changes and salt and heat, can my fish survive the ich? How often and how much water change would you recommend to deal with ich.

Style Your Vehicle With Custom Hood Ornaments for Your Car

If your car does not have an wood wall ornament you might want to consider getting one. The right piece can help you create a very eye-catching look for any vehicle, and an otherwise plain-looking hood will appear to be far more stylish. If you are thinking about supping up a car’s exterior, you might want to consider getting some custom hood wall wood ornaments for your car.

Custom wood ornaments are usually installed above the grille. Usually they will sit right on top of the hood and they will actually protrude from it, rather than sitting flush against it. Some car brands that usually include wood ornaments on their vehicles as standard include Jaguar, Bentley, Rolls Royce, and some vehicles from Mercedes. However, it is possible to attach such a piece to any vehicle.

There are many reasons to purchase a hood wood ornament for a vehicle. You may need to improve the car’s appearance, for example, or you might have lost the original piece in an accident. If you are purchasing a replacement item, though, you should ensure that it can fully cover the area that was occupied by the previous item in order to cover up any drill holes it may have left behind.

Today, you can find tons of items through online retailers. Some retailers will specialize in selling traditional items that look like they came straight from the car manufacturers, while others will stock specialty pieces that feature interesting patterns, shapes, and designs. You should feel free to choose any type of item that you feel will go well with the vehicle.

Some of the unique pieces that can easily be found in online stores include the classic flying lady, the nude lady, the flying goddess, flying horses, animals, fish, birds and assorted novelties. There are also other specialty pieces that feature skulls, dinosaurs, and animals that have LED eyes. It is also possible to commission sculpture artists to make items specifically for you.

If you are going for a more traditional look, you should definitely stick with classic designs that look like they have come from a car manufacturer. Traditional looks of sorts includes the 1931 and 1941 Cadillac hood home wood ornaments To create a more quirky look, try a piece that features an animal or an interesting Gothic design. You can even contact an artist and ask them to make a piece based on an image that you provide.

Getting custom hood wood ornaments or mascots for a car or truck is a great way to amp up its design. Rather than narrowing your choices to only car manufacturer originals, consider a more unique design that complements the car’s exterior.

Hand Made Beaded Ornaments

  • Posted on February 12, 2011 at 9:00 am

Here’s an excellent Christmas gift idea that can be made right at home, and it’s a wonderful family craft project for older kids, teenagers, and adults who just love being crafty: Homemade Christmas Ornaments.

When I was a young girl, I used to get a specific Christmas gift every year. It was a beaded doll craft project. The project came in a box with all the materials I needed: A Styrofoam doll body, the doll head and arms, and many beads, sequins and pins.

I don’t know how many different doll designs there were, but I ended up with many over several years. And I don’t know what happened to those kits either… I’ve looked for them to buy for my own daughter in recent years but I can’t find them anymore.

You can use the same concept to create your own Christmas wood ornaments though, and these make wonderful gifts to give to family and friends.

Go to the craft store and buy a batch of Styrofoam balls. Also buy a whole load of sequins, beads, buttons and straight pins.

Then simply decorate the balls! Put a straight pin through a bead first, then through a sequin. Then push that pin into the Styrofoam ball. Put together colors and patterns as you see fit. The designs are pretty much limited just by your imagination.

You could make straight rows for instance, of alternating colors. Red beads with clear sequins on one row, and clear beads with green sequins on another row. Keep putting new rows on the ball until it’s fully covered, then push a small eyelet hook into the ball, and thread some ribbon or thread through it for hanging.

One note of warning: Since your homemade wood ornaments will be filled with sharp pins, be sure they’re not easily accessible by small children or pets. They’ll love the sparkly, almost jewel like look created from the Christmas lights shining on the beads and sequins, but they could be hurt by the pins if they tear the wood wall ornament apart.
